Welcome to Gothenburg
Gothenburg is a friendly city, situated at the west coast of Sweden, home to a vibrant cultural and gastronomic scene and sustainable living. The city is easy to get to. The international airport offers great connections and is located less than 20 minutes from the city centre and the meeting venue.
With its location on the Swedish west coast, Gothenburg is the largest non-capital in the Nordics. In less than 30 minutes from the downtown area, visitors can explore the tranquil archipelago. Gothenburg is an international city since its foundation in 1621. Today, the city blends a distinct feeling of charm with the pulse of modern urban life and a creative atmosphere.
The city is brimming with greenery and parks, historic sites and buildings, and magnificent museums. Cosy cafés and restaurants, some internationally renowned for their haute cuisine, line the tram-rattled streets. A compact city centre built around canals offers a youthful city pulse, and the archipelago, easily reached by public transportation, exudes serenity. Gothenburg is simply a city for everyone.
For the seventh year in a row, Gothenburg is named the world’s most sustainable destination according to the Global Destination Sustainability Index. The city strives to develop the city as a sustainable destination by taking financial, environmental and social responsibility, and by constantly challenging accepted ideas of sustainability.
Accessible for all
The city is systematically working on improving public facilities, with concrete actions to make amusement parks, playgrounds and the local universities more accessible. It has a holistic perspective for the urban environment with a policy and programmes concerning its design. Addressing the question of accessibility is central, and cooperation takes place on a broad front between administrations and companies.
The city’s’ goal is to stimulate universal design so that everybody should, as far as possible, be able to use ordinary transport, service functions and facilities. More easily accessible information is available, e.g. audible stop announcements and physical measures are taken to make entering and alighting easier for everyone.
